SUMMARY:Public Meeting re FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plan
DESCRIPTION:Public Meeting Notice: Wilson County FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plan Public Meeting to Be Held on May 31\, 2018 \nWilson County and its incorporated cities of Floresville\, LaVernia\, Poth and Stockdale will hold a public meeting on Thursday\, May 31\, 2018 to gather public input for the Karnes-Wilson Multi-jurisdictional FEMA Hazard Mitigation Action Plan. The meeting is at 5:00 pm at Floresville Community Center\, 600 SH 97 West\, Floresville\, Texas. The public\, area businesses and organizations located throughout the planning area are invited and encouraged to attend. \nUnder the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000\, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires communities to develop a mitigation plan to minimize or eliminate the long term risk to human life and property from known hazards. Mitigation is defined by FEMA as sustained actions taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards and their effects. Hazards that may pose risk and potentially result in disaster include drought\, flood\, hurricane\, tornado\, wildfire and other high hazards. \nCommunities with a FEMA-approved Plan are eligible for certain grant funding under the Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) program to fund critical projects such as buyouts and structural elevation of repetitive flood loss structures\, drainage projects and hardening critical facilities to minimize future damage from natural disasters that affect the Karnes-Wilson Counties planning area. \nThe purpose of the public meeting is to provide a project overview from Langford Community Management Services\, consultant to the project\, and solicit information from citizens. Public input will help the Planning Team to identify and analyze potential hazards affecting residents and recommend possible actions to reduce their impact throughout Karnes-Wilson Counties planning area. \nIn addition to the required meetings\, the communities are conducting an on-line community survey to understand residents’ top concerns. The survey can be taken on-line at tiny.cc/hmap \nHard copies of the survey can be found at the Karnes or Wilson County Court House or at the local city halls and libraries of the plan participants. Once you fill out the survey\, please return it to either your local city hall\, library or County Courthouse.\nThe communities welcome your input! \nFor further information\, contact Wilson County Judge Jackson at (830) 393-7303. \nFacebook Event Page \n\nSHARE
