Floresville’s former San Antonio & Aransas Pass railway depot — in bad need of repair — is about to get a new lease on life.

The city of Floresville is finalizing an agreement to turn the historical train station over to the Floresville Heritage and Railroad Museum (FHRM) for two years.

Floresville City Manager Andrew Muñoz told the Wilson County News that the agreement will call for the organization to come up with conceptual drawings, architectural plans, and cost estimates for the building’s rehabilitation and present them to the city council before the end of that time period.

Muñoz also said he expects the city council to vote on the agreement and that it will be signed this month….

DALLAS – S&P Global Ratings raised its underlying rating to “A” from “A-” on Floresville, Texas’ certificates of obligation (COs) and general obligation (GO) debt outstanding. At the same time, S&P Global Ratings assigned its “A” long-term rating to the city’s anticipated $10.0 million combination tax and revenue COs, series 2026. The outlook is positive, reflecting the potential for upward rating momentum if the city can sustain its improved financial performance, supporting the current level of reserves within the near term. The upgrade reflects our view of the city’s continued positive financial performance supported by management’s efforts to right-size the budget, which boosted the reserve position to above 50% of operating revenues during the last two audited years….

“I believe … that every child, regardless of ability, deserves a space to play, to laugh, to grow, and to feel that they belong,” Floresville Mayor Gloria Morales Cantu told community members at an Aug. 30 ceremony to open Floresville’s first all-inclusive playground.

Located near the batting cages behind the Floresville Event Center, the playground is Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)- compliant. Built by Adventure Playground Systems, it is complete with equipment for children of all abilities, ensuring that everyone can play without limitations.

The project has been in the making for nearly a decade, the mayor said. Plans originated when she served as a councilmember for the city beginning in 2016….

FLORESVILLE – Squeak’s Convenience Store will be offering more to its customers in Floresville than usual on Friday. Store owners are holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday to celebrate the store’s 70 years of being a constant source of local products, a popular community meeting spot, and a real lightning rod for lottery luck.

Representatives from the Texas Lottery are also celebrating the festivities, as the store is among the top 10 in scratch-off sales in Texas. According to the Texas Lottery website, Squeak’s sold $3.8 million in scratch-offs last year, and the store is said to be ahead of projected sales numbers for this year. In addition, the store sold a $20 scratch-off card that turned out to be a $1 million winner, the largest winning scratch-off card Squeak’s has sold. The convenience store has also had a $925,000 winner on the Texas Two Step….

The City of Floresville is gearing up to make some enhancements to the River City Park, after being awarded a grant for its Park Enhancement Project. The $35,000 grant — awarded August 14 to the San Antonio Board of REALTORS® (SABOR) from the National Association of REALTORS® — will be used to improve park facilities and create a more inclusive environment for all visitors. The project includes enhancements to remodel the River City Park restroom and add picnic tables, bleachers, and benches with canopies for families and spectators….

The latest H-E-B Fresh Bites store opened its doors Wednesday in Floresville as the grocery chain rebrands its line of convenience centers.

H-E-B announced in April that convenience store locations in San Antonio and surrounding cities would be revamped into “H-E-B Fresh Bites,” designed to offer healthier on-the-go food options.

Instead of snacking on chips and candy, customers can grab produce, salads, sandwiches, sushi and juices to go.

Many of the locations, including the Floresville Fresh Bites, will be home to H-E-B’s Tex-Mex chain, True Texas Tacos.

And like a classic convenience store, Fresh Bites locations will include gas stations and carwashes….
