Floresville Mayor, City Council Members Take Oaths of Office

In a brief special meeting May 11, the Floresville City Council certified the vote totals and declared the winners of the May 2 city council election.

Floresville City Secretary Evelyn Garcia announced the results of the canvass of the election returns; the vote totals are as follows:

  • Mayor — Gloria Morales Cantu, 640; Marissa Ximenez, 523
  • Place 1 — Daniel Tejada, 492; Dora Barrera Cantu, 661
  • Place 2 — Mario Morones (unopposed), 788.

After voting to approve the canvass, the three council members present — Jake Lamberth, Frances Flores, and Felix Cantu — also voted to declare Morones and those receiving the most votes in their respective races as elected, each to a two-year term….

Wheels Rolling in Right Direction for Old Floresville Depot

Floresville’s former San Antonio & Aransas Pass railway depot — in bad need of repair — is about to get a new lease on life.

The city of Floresville is finalizing an agreement to turn the historical train station over to the Floresville Heritage and Railroad Museum (FHRM) for two years.

Floresville City Manager Andrew Muñoz told the Wilson County News that the agreement will call for the organization to come up with conceptual drawings, architectural plans, and cost estimates for the building’s rehabilitation and present them to the city council before the end of that time period.

Muñoz also said he expects the city council to vote on the agreement and that it will be signed this month….
